Lazuril¶
Lazuril is the known world upon which the continent of Arkhaven exists.
The world is dominated by vast oceans, separated continental landmasses, deep climatic variation, ancient religious history, and long-lived civilisations whose records often contradict one another.
The name "Lazuril" is commonly associated with the blue appearance of the world when viewed through astronomical instruments or described in older cosmological writings.
Overview¶
Lazuril contains multiple continents, major ocean systems, isolated island chains, polar regions, and large unexplored territories.
Only portions of the world are well documented.
Most surviving historical records originate from:
- Arkhaven
- Elven archive houses
- Dwarven engineering records
- Religious institutions
- Maritime trade powers
Large sections of the world remain poorly mapped.
Astronomy¶
The study of astronomy is practiced by scholars, navigators, Scriptors, sailors, and religious observatories throughout Lazuril.
Several major cultures maintain differing cosmological models regarding:
- The movement of celestial bodies
- The divine structure of the heavens
- The origins of the world
- The role of magic in the cosmos
- The relationship between the gods and the stars
Astronomical observation is especially important for navigation and calendar keeping.
Continents¶
Arkhaven is currently the best documented continent in surviving records.
Other continental landmasses are known to exist beyond the surrounding seas, though many remain politically or geographically distant from the affairs of Arkhaven.
Some are known primarily through:
- Merchant records
- Sailor testimony
- Pilgrimage accounts
- Diplomatic reports
- Fragmentary maps
- Ancient archive references
Oceans and Seas¶
The oceans of Lazuril are major drivers of trade, migration, climate, and political influence.
Long-distance travel remains dangerous due to:
- Storm systems
- Sea monsters
- Navigational uncertainty
- Piracy
- Uncharted waters
- Seasonal currents
Despite this, maritime trade connects large parts of the known world.
Historical Ages¶
Most historians divide the history of Lazuril into broad historical ages.
Exact dates remain disputed.
Major eras commonly referenced include:
- The Age Before Memory
- The Age of Fracture
- The Post-Godscar Era
- The Era of Silence
- The Age of False Saints
- The Compact Era
These classifications are used differently between cultures and institutions.
Religion¶
Religion is one of the defining forces of Lazuril.
The gods are widely accepted as real entities capable of interacting with the mortal world through divine magic, prophecy, visions, omens, and miracles.
At the same time, the history of Lazuril demonstrates that divine claims can be manipulated, misunderstood, or falsified.
This tension heavily influences politics, scholarship, and law.
Current Status¶
Lazuril remains politically fragmented and historically incomplete.
Ancient ruins, disputed records, forgotten roads, submerged structures, and lost civilisations continue to shape the modern world.
Many scholars believe significant portions of Lazurilian history remain undiscovered, concealed, or deliberately restricted.
