The Eldermarch Court

The Eldermarch Court

The Eldermarch Court is an elven-ruled state in the north-west of Arkhaven.

It is known to its own people as Calen-Êlwen, meaning roughly "Land of the Elder Light".

The ruling elves believe their ancient bloodlines give them the rightful claim to rule the continent.

Government

The Eldermarch Court is governed by six noble elven families.

Each family is led by the eldest living member of its bloodline, and together these six elders form the ruling court.

Authority is inherited through lineage rather than election or merit. Political power is closely tied to ancestry, land ownership, and the age of a family’s claim.

Dominant Peoples

The dominant people of the Eldermarch Court are elves, especially the old noble bloodlines who control the court and its laws.

Lesser elven houses, retainers, druids, scouts, and forest-bound communities live beneath their authority.

Other peoples may exist within their borders, but they are usually treated as subjects, tolerated residents, or outsiders rather than equals.

Region and Biome

The Eldermarch Court occupies the north-western reaches of Arkhaven.

Its northern lands are dense jungle, especially around the tip of the peninsula. Further south, the land becomes more mountainous, while the western regions become drier and harsher.

This gives the state a varied landscape of ancient jungle, highland passes, dry woodland, and old elven estates.

Culture

Eldermarch society is aristocratic, traditionalist, and deeply concerned with bloodline legitimacy.

The ruling families see themselves not as conquerors, but as the natural inheritors of the continent.

Their culture values age, ancestry, legal precedent, land stewardship, and obedience to inherited rank.

The Court is secular rather than god-centred, placing more importance on lineage, law, and the ancient bond between elves and the land.

Religion and Magic

Religion does not play a central role in the authority of the Eldermarch Court.

Power is instead tied to druidic magic and the belief that the ruling families are uniquely suited to guide and shape the natural world.

Their druids tend the jungles, woods, and highlands, though this care is not necessarily benevolent.

Eldermarch magic is lawful and controlled, used to preserve the land according to elven design and to punish those seen as corrupting or misusing it.

Tensions

There is internal tension between the six noble families, as each bloodline competes for influence within the court.

Externally, the Court’s main conflict is with the Houses of Bârathanaear to the south.

The dispute centres on land rights, border claims, and ideology. The Eldermarch Court seeks to preserve older elven traditions and ancestral claims, while Bârathanaear is moving toward a more modernised society.

The Court also watches the Zul’Akari Clans, whose sacred jungle territories limit elven expansion in the region.
