The Verdant Confederacy

The Verdant Confederacy

The Verdant Confederacy is a human-elven confederation spread across fertile grassy plains, built around shared settlement, agriculture, trade, and mutual defence.

It is one of the more stable and prosperous states in the region, with a culture that blends human practicality with elven land stewardship.

Government

The Confederacy is ruled through a council of member territories rather than by a single monarch.

Human townships, elven enclaves, farming districts, and old noble estates each send representatives to a central confederate assembly.

Human leaders usually focus on trade, defence, law, and expansion, while elven representatives often hold authority over land management, magical regulation, long-term planning, and ancient territorial rights.

Dominant Peoples

Humans and elves are the dominant peoples, with a long history of cohabitation and political compromise.

Half-elves are especially common and often serve as diplomats, magistrates, land surveyors, officers, and merchants.

Halflings, gnomes, and small numbers of dwarves may also live in the Confederacy, particularly in market towns and farming communities.

Region and Biome

The Verdant Confederacy lies in a broad grassy biome of plains, rolling pastureland, river valleys, and scattered woodland.

It has less forest than the states further south, making it well suited for farming, cavalry movement, road-building, and large settlements.

Its open terrain gives it strong agricultural output and relatively easy internal travel.

Culture

Verdant culture is cooperative, orderly, and land-focused.

Human and elven traditions have mixed into a shared civic identity based on harvest festivals, ancestor groves, common law, militia service, and respect for cultivated land.

Humans tend to dominate the larger towns, farms, and trade leagues, while elves maintain influence through older estates, druidic circles, magical academies, and sacred groves.

The society values stability, diplomacy, education, and good stewardship over conquest for its own sake.

Religion and Magic

Religion is diverse, but nature, agriculture, protection, and community gods are especially important.

Gods such as Chauntea, Mielikki, Eldath, Silvanus, Corellon, and Angharradh are commonly honoured in different parts of the Confederacy.

Human communities often favour gods of farming, law, family, and prosperity, while elven communities lean toward the Seldarine, nature spirits, and older land-bound traditions.

Magic is more common on the elven side of the Confederacy.

Elven mages, druids, and wardens use magic to enrich soil, guide weather patterns, protect groves, heal blighted land, and maintain old boundary wards.

Human settlements use magic more practically and less abundantly, usually for healing, irrigation, construction, and defence.

Tensions

The Confederacy has relatively low internal tension compared to its neighbours, largely because humans and elves have learned to share power through law and custom.

The main divide is cultural. Humans often favour growth, roads, trade, and military readiness, while elves prefer slower development and careful land management.

Externally, the Confederacy has ambitions toward The Vermillion Crown.

Its leaders see the Crown as a rival human power and may believe they could govern its lands more wisely, especially if the Crown is viewed as exploitative, unstable, or overextended.

A combined human-elven campaign against the Vermillion Crown would likely rely on disciplined infantry, strong cavalry from the plains, elven magic, scouts, and supply lines supported by the Confederacy’s fertile heartland.
